Great buy, even better price January 6, 2009 I work in Europe (Spain) right now but wanted a GPS that had maps of USA as well for when I go back to the US. I've read reviews that sometimes this GPS unit had trouble picking up satellites, however, this unit worked right out of the box. Within a minute, the unit picked up satellites and worked great. I was using a work issued Garmin 350T GPS before, and that required an external antenna to aid in picking up satellites. The 270 requires no external antenna and would even pick up satellites inside my bedroom. It's compact, attached right on my front window, and worked great. While I have not traveled outside of Spain to road-test it, it's worked great in Spain, even accurately guiding through small streets and back roads. When I researched this unit, the 270 was going for $399 retail. I paid $130 for it and got free shipping, so I got a great deal on it through Amazon.com's website. While this unit doesn't speak road names, I found I really don't need that feature. I would recommend this GPS model for others who require maps for both Europe and the USA. Upon purchase and registering the unit with Garmin's website, Garmin updated my maps to City Navigator 2009, which was another added bonus. This is the first GPS unit I've purchased with my own money and it's been great so far. I did not give the unit a 5 star rating because I have no had a chance to test outside of my city.
Great for Europe January 5, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Served us well on a trip to Spain, Malaga and Cordoba areas, even Gibraltar. Not only showed us the roads and gave directions, even warned of location of "speed cameras."
great in usa..not so great in Italy January 5, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love the Garmen 270 in the usa. It is easy to read and I use it frequently. However it did not help in Venice, Italy or Florence, Italy. I could not get oriented in either city.
Garmin GPS makes great gift.a January 2, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one for my son and one for my father-in-law for christmas. It has been very easy to use for both. I was worried about giving it to my father-in-law because he is not very good with high tech gadgets but he has been able to use it with no troble. The price is also a great value.
easy to start, easy to use January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I live in Brazil and wanted to buy A GPS navigator that could be used both in the USA and in Europe. So far I did use it only in yhe USA and the experience has been a very good one. Since I will be using the product on rented/leased cars I bought also the portable dashbord support, that I fully approved too. Resuming: very easy to install and excellent funcionality.
