Some Wi-Fi devices use the 2.4GHz wireless band, including iPhone, iPod touch, and devices using 802.11b/g. Other devices can use either 2.4GHz or the higher-speed 5GHz band, such as the latest 802.11n-based Mac computers and Apple TV. truth hurts always (usa)
Apple defines what plug and play SHOULD be. This router is tops - in all areas. I have struggled with "other" top rated routers - because I am cheap and will never learn my lesson. I gave up after frustrating hours on phone, trying to troubleshoot the "other" router, most of the time trying to decipher what the technician was trying to say.
I bit the bullet and and bought this beauty (We are an all Mac family, 6 macs, 3 ipods and all kind of gaming devices - and netflix ). The White Box is solid as a rock. Great range and speed (both on N and B :-)
So spend a few dollars more (especially if you are a mac person like me - who wants the technology to be transparent and always ready to SERVE) and enjoy. It gives me a little more pleasure to know that world is a better place with Apple products.

Arrived in a timely manner with great packaging and no damage. It was much easier to set it up than the router it replaced and I have had no negative issues with it to date.

I had a linksys that was giving me all kinds of problems. It had limited range and difficult to configure security settings. I have two airport express units for printing and connection to my stereo. When I decided to give up the linksys I figured an Apple router would be the best choice to work seamlessly with the airport express' -and I was right.
Setup was fast & easy and I was securely browsing the web, printing & listening to music in no time. Even though there's no visible exterior antenna on the airport extreme, it gives me at least 40% greater range than the linksys did with an exterior booster antenna.

Apple's Airport Extreme is pretty great. It's sleak, easy to use, small, and gives a really good wireless range even through old/thick walls throughout my apartment. It is a little pricey for what it is, you could easily get a Linksys router of equal excellence for fairly cheaper, but this is worth it if you want a hassle free user experience. That and within the first week of obtaining my router my apartment was struck by lightning which rendered the router not able to turn on. I have read about this problem occurring more than you'd think. Lightning affects the router pretty easily though Apple and or Amazon have been good to replace it, so I would recommend using a high quality surge protector with it.
